Join the College of Medicine’s Student Council – Be a Leader in Healthcare Reform!

Are you passionate about reforming healthcare and shaping a more inclusive, compassionate system for all?

The College of Medicine invites forward-thinking medical students to join our Student Council and play a pivotal role in redefining healthcare for future generations.

Founded in 2010, our College has been at the forefront of healthcare reform in the UK. Our mission is clear: to create a healthcare system that works for everyone—young and old, rich and poor, black and white. We aim to bridge the gap between conventional and non-conventional approaches to health, and reconnect patients with practitioners while keeping the well-being of individuals and communities at the heart of care.

As part of the Student Council, you will:

  • Work alongside NHS pioneers, scientists, CAM professionals, and bright students like yourself.
  • Be part of a national committee for an international college which leads initiatives that address healthcare needs using every tool at our disposal.
  • Contribute to a movement that puts health and care at the centre of society, where medicine is more than just pills and procedures.
  • Be provided with a letter of recommendation for your efforts and support of the college from the senior clinical team.

If you’re driven by the same vision of a healthcare system that’s progressive, inclusive, and compassionate, we’d love for you to join us.

Together, we can create a future where everyone is equipped to stay well and thrive. Apply now to become part of the College of Medicine’s Student Council!

To apply please send us a personal statement of 500 words on why you would be a good fit for the council. This should be sent to Students@collegeofmedicine.org.uk.

Student Council Role Descriptions:

President

The President of the Student Council is the primary leader and representative of the College of Medicine’s student body. The President’s role is to drive the council’s vision of reforming healthcare so that it works for everyone, embracing an inclusive, progressive, and compassionate approach. This role involves overseeing all council activities, coordinating with NHS pioneers, scientists, CAM professionals, and students, and ensuring that the council’s initiatives align with the mission of reconnecting practitioners with patients and people with their environment. The President will serve as a bridge between students, faculty, and external partners to foster collaboration and drive positive change in healthcare.

Events Coordinators

The Events Coordinators are responsible for planning and executing events that reflect the College’s mission of redefining medicine. These events may include guest lectures, workshops, health forums, and community outreach initiatives that involve both conventional and non-conventional approaches to health. The Events Coordinators will work closely with council members and external experts to ensure that these events are inclusive, engaging, and impactful, helping to spread awareness and build community around healthcare reform.

Outreach Officer

The Outreach Officer plays a strategic role in expanding the College’s influence by building connections with external organizations, students, and healthcare professionals. The role involves creating partnerships that support the College’s vision of healthcare that works for everyone, using every medical tool available, without discrimination. The Outreach Officer will also engage with the broader community, helping to increase visibility and participation in the College’s initiatives. Their goal is to foster collaboration with diverse stakeholders, ensuring the College remains at the forefront of healthcare innovation and inclusivity.

Social Media Officer

This role involves creating content that promotes the council’s events, initiatives, and key messages around healthcare reform, inclusivity, and holistic well-being. The Social Media Officer will focus on increasing engagement across platforms, raising awareness about the College’s progressive approach to medicine, and fostering an online community that supports its mission.

Treasurer

Although the Treasurer role may not be immediately necessary, it is essential as the council grows. The Treasurer will be responsible for managing the council’s finances, including budgeting for events, fundraising efforts, and ensuring financial sustainability. Their role will be to ensure that resources are allocated appropriately, supporting the College’s mission to tackle illness based on people’s needs, not just the system’s limitations. This role is crucial to enabling the council to take on larger projects that require sound financial management.

Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for the smooth running of the council’s operations. This includes managing documentation, writing and distributing minutes from meetings, and ensuring clear communication between council members. The Secretary also organizes internal social activities that foster community and collaboration within the council. The role is vital in ensuring that all initiatives run efficiently, with a particular focus on keeping the council’s mission and values at the forefront of its activities. The Secretary ensures that council meetings are well-organized and productive, contributing to the overall success of the College’s efforts.

These roles are designed to support the College of Medicine’s mission of creating a healthcare system that is inclusive, compassionate, and progressive, and ensuring that students are at the heart of this transformative movement.
