Student Invitation to Citizens Jury on The Future of the NHS

Hive Mind Speaks are a participatory democracy organisation holding a free Citizen Jury event on the Future of the NHS at London South Bank University on Sat April 12th – 4-8pm and we would love to hear from students like you to inform the discussion.

The event is the culmination of NHS65  a nationwide campaign to screen a social impact video at 65 prominent locations across the UK over 6 days via an LED Van. The 65 locations represent the 65th anniversary of NHS founder Nye Bevan’s death, this year in 2025.

The critical issue of ’The Future of the NHS’ will be on trial, where a diverse, demographically representative group of participants will deliberate on 3 key areas that future of the NHS depends on, as highlighted by the recent Wes Streeting commissioned Lord Darzi report.

We are feeding the results of our citizens jury into the NHS change initiative https://change.nhs.uk/en-GB/ to ensure the public’s voice will be heard in the rebuilding and shaping of the future of the NHS.

We have such notable speakers providing expert testimony for our citizens jury as:

Aneira Thomas – The first ever baby born on under the NHS (https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/sep/16/first-baby-born-under-nhs-national-health-service-aneurin-bevan)

Professor Gwyn Bevan – Emeritus Professor of Policy Analysis at London School of Economics (https://www.lse.ac.uk/management/people/emeriti/gwyn-bevan) and author of the book ‘How Did Britain Come to This? A century of systemic failures of governance’.

Dr Bob Gill – Current practicing GP and producer of the documentary The Great NHS Heist (https://thegreatnhsheist.com) featuring such talking heads as Yanis Varoufakis and Ken Loach.

Students can be part of this jury or come as a participant observer followed by a free drinks reception afterwards.
