GLADD is running a Student Prize, inviting all Medical and Dental students to present a piece of writing in any arts and humanities format (excluding academic essays) on the subject of ‘The History of LGBTQ+ Medicine’. This competition will give participants the opportunity to explore an area of healthcare that they may be less familiar with and present their findings to a panel of high-profile judges in a way that promotes creativity and originality in their work.
Prizes will be awarded to the entrants by our judging panel, made up of GLADD committee members and special judges Adam Kay and Zoë Playdon. All entrants will receive a free 1-year GLADD membership and a signed certificate. There are also cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. The website, and further details on the prize, can be found here.
There is no word limit within reason. Work of any length that suits the size of the submission (with a suggested limit of 2000 words) will be accepted, but this is dependent on the format of the piece. If a piece’s format necessitates a higher word count, then it will still be accepted, and students may email students@gladd.co.uk for advice.
We would really love to get the word out about this to as many students as possible. Would it be possible for you to circulate this information to your students, either by a weekly email bulletin, or however your MedSoc normally circulates announcements like this? We will be doing a second announcement in late September as well to spread the word to incoming first-year students.
